Sometimes it is helpful to take a moment to evaluate where you are with the drivers in your life. These drivers often include your needs, wants, and desires. Which of your needs related to threats to your health like medicines that you need to take? Which of your needs are really wants or habits? Are your desires also habits? Which of these habits are really the result of social programming, peer pressures, robotic reactions, or robotic response?
Sometimes as you go through the process of discernment you need to allow new ideas and self-reflections to be placed in the tumbler of your heart. This is a time to reflect on what stimulates, activates, and triggers your reactions to life, others, circumstances, and dynamics. What stimulation triggers your reactions to life in predictable ways and causes wreckage that you regret? How have your negative self-concepts caused you to disconnect from yourself and wished that this part of you didn’t exist?
It may be very helpful to repurpose certain destructive tendencies and replace them with more constructive abilities. Some of these new constructive abilities may involve learning to lovingly connect with yourself.
I desire arises
Is this good for me?
What is its impact positively and negatively?
When, where, and with whom does this fit?
If it doesn’t fit how do you interrupt the cycle so that you don’t relapse?
And at the core of our being is our need for a meaningful sense of connection that underscores all of our needs.
